Deputy Director of the Institute of Legislation and Legal Policy under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vosid Ergashev took part as a moderator in the international conference on the theme “Human rights – an important factor in the sustainable development of states”, held on 23 February this year in Tashkent on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the institution of the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman).
The event was organised by the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights in cooperation with the Permanent Representative of the UNDP in Uzbekistan, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, the USAID mission in Uzbekistan, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
The conference was attended by Ombudsmen from Australia, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Morocco, Norway, Pakistan, Russia, Serbia, Thailand, Turkey, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of specialized committees of the UN, the Council of Europe, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the Venice Commission, the International Ombudsman Institute and the Association of Asian Ombudsmen. The event was also attended by senators and deputies, Children’s Ombudsman, Business-Ombudsman, representatives of the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, the Office of the Procurator-General, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the National Centre for Human Rights and a number of state organizations.
The work of the international conference was organised in sessions. The sessions discussed the cooperation of national human rights institutions with parliament and civil society in ensuring human rights, the relevance of protecting human rights in the context of digitalization, issues of ensuring gender equality and the rights of people with disabilities within the framework of the Sustainable Development Programme, guarantees of labour relations and the creation of decent working conditions. A Tashkent resolution was adopted at the end of the event.
