In the context of the global transition to the principles of circular economy and green technologies, the modernisation of industrial facilities in special economic zones and small industrial zones is of particular importance for improving the environmental situation and the well-being of the region’s population.
Within the framework of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) project on transformation of industrial zones of Uzbekistan into eco-industrial parks, the Institute established a working group to analyse legislation in the field of “green industrialisation”.
On 24 January 2025, the Institute organised a seminar on “Eco-industrial parks in Uzbekistan: innovation, symbiosis and sustainable development”. The event was attended by representatives of some 20 relevant ministries and agencies, as well as local and foreign experts.
Participants discussed the concept of eco-industrial parks, sustainability and environmental aspects in the development of industrial zones, analysis of regulation in Uzbekistan and prospects for the implementation of eco-industrial park standards.
The event was an important step towards ensuring the environmental safety of industrial zones and achieving sustainable development goals. The results of the seminar will allow improving the regulatory framework and introducing international standards in the development of eco-industrial parks.
