The agenda of the event included a deep analysis of the Aral Sea crisis and water problems within the context of the Central Asian region. The discussions focused on the issue of forming effective mechanisms for the joint and rational management of water resources by the countries of the region. In particular, the participants paid special attention to the prospects of strengthening regional integration through the development of transboundary water cooperation.
Leading specialists and experts in the field participated in the scientific-practical event with their reports. Notably, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Economics, Professor N.S. Representatives of partner organizations – the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the International Institute of Central Asia, the Ministry of Water Resources, and the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan – also took an active part in the seminar.
Following the event, a number of scientifically grounded proposals and recommendations were developed to improve the legal and institutional foundations for the use of transboundary water resources. It was determined that these proposals would be taken into account by the Institute in ongoing fundamental and applied research in this area, as well as utilized in the process of improving legislation.
