On May 26 of this year the Institute of Legislation and Legal Policy held a theoretical seminar featuring a leading British economist, professor at the University of York and Director of the York Centre for Historical Economics and Related Research Matthias Morys, a recognized expert in the field of monetary and financial policy.

The seminar was dedicated to the topic of “The balance between inflation and economic growth in monetary policy”.

The event was attended by representatives from the Central Bank, the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Agency for Strategic Development, as well as leading analytical and scientific institutions from across the country.

During the seminar, historical and contemporary trends in the development of monetary and financial policy in developed and developing countries were examined, with a particular focus on currency regimes. Special attention was paid to studying the nature of inflation, the historical dynamics of price increases, the transition of the global monetary system to paper money, and the role of gold and silver in monetary circulation. The professor also analyzed inflationary processes following the 2008 global financial crisis, the impact of global imbalances during the 2010s, and the issue of misalignment between societal interests and the dynamics of financial markets in 2020-2022.
