On July 4, the ILLP held an online meeting with Lord Edward Faulks, a member of the House of Lords of the UK Parliament and chairman of the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO).
During the meeting, the British parliamentarian was briefed on the activities of ILLP and its participation in the country’s ongoing legal reforms to improve constitutional construction, public administration and civil legislation.
Particular attention was paid to the work carried out by ILLP to prepare comments on the updated Constitution, the new edition of the Civil Code and recommendations on decentralizing state power in the republic.
In turn, Lord Faulks emphasized that the process of devolution, on which the Uzbek government is actively working, is a step that most developed countries have taken on the path to effective state-building.
Lord Faulks also emphasized the important role of the media in the state and appreciated the legislative changes in Uzbekistan in this direction. According to him, the new provisions in the updated Constitution of Uzbekistan that guarantee access to the global Internet network contribute to strengthening press freedom and positively impact the media environment in the country.
