Professor B. Ismailov, Head of the Department, and Leading researcher A. Bobokulov took part in the Regional Coordination Mechanism meeting of sub-regional initiatives under the framework of the “Labour Migration Programme – Central Asia”, organised by the International Organization for Migration on 18-19 November 2024 in Almaty.
The “Labour Migration Programme – Central Asia” is a project of the International Organization for Migration, which has been implemented since June 2022 with the financial support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The aim of the programme is to develop partnerships in the field of labour migration management at the regional level in Central Asia. The programme aims to contribute to the improvement of labour migration management in the countries participating in the project, namely Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic.
As part of the implementation of the programme, a Regional Coordination Mechanism has been established as an annual forum for partners to exchange information on trends and dynamics of labour migration in the region.
The event was attended by about 70 delegates from relevant ministries and agencies in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
It should be noted that migration policy is one of the main priorities of state policy in the Republic of Uzbekistan and systematic measures are being taken to improve the effectiveness of state migration policy, protect the rights and legitimate interests of migrants and provide them with comprehensive assistance.
The importance of this issue is reflected in the Strategy “Uzbekistan – 2030”, where Goal 95 is defined as “Improving the system of external labour migration and providing comprehensive assistance to citizens”.
