On May 30, the ILLP hosted a seminar led by professor Mavluda Sattorova of the University of Liverpool. The seminar focused on the topic “Main directions of reforms in international investment law”.

The event aimed to discuss key trends in the transformation of international investment law, analyse challenges and opportunities for Uzbekistan in creating a favourable investment climate, and develop recommendations for adapting to new international standards.

During her presentation, professor Sattorova discussed current challenges in international investment law and addressed issues related to the termination of bilateral investment treaties, dispute resolution mechanisms between investors and states, balancing investor protection with state sovereignty, using political and economic incentives to resolve disputes, and reducing the cost of arbitration proceedings. She emphasized the importance of institutionalizing diplomatic and mediation mechanisms to prevent costly arbitration proceedings and adapting Uzbekistan to global legal trends.

Discussions during the Q&A session demonstrated significant interest in the reform of the international investment regime and its impact on Uzbekistan’s investment policy.

The event served as an important platform for exchanging views among representatives of the academic community, government bodies, and legal practitioners.
