On May 18 of this year in Tashkent, representatives of the ILLP, led by Deputy Director V.Ergashev, took part in the first Tashkent International Migration Forum, organised by the Migration Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan in conjunction with the International Organisation for Migration on the theme: ‘Social and legal protection of labour migrants and their families’.
The forum focused on contemporary approaches to labour migration, the protection of migrants’ rights and interests, the improvement of mechanisms for safe and legal migration, and the expansion of international cooperation in this field.
The forum featured plenary sessions with international experts, as well as panel discussions on labour migration, professional qualifications, gender equality, youth policy and the impact of climate change on migration processes.
The main aim of the forum was to strengthen effective mechanisms for international cooperation that promote safe, orderly and legal migration, the protection of human dignity and sustainable development.
The forum brought together around 600 representatives from more than 40 countries worldwide.
Overall, the forum served to further strengthen Uzbekistan’s international standing as a state pursuing an open and humane migration policy, as well as a hub for international dialogue and constructive initiatives.
