On June 3, 2025, the Institute of Legislation and Legal Policy under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a practical seminar with lawyers from the international law firm Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP.
The discussions focused on topical issues of contractual and legal regulation of projects in the oil and gas sector, mechanisms for preventing state losses, and protecting interests in international arbitration.
London office partner Mark Hammerson presented an analysis of production sharing agreements, licensing and strategies to minimize losses to the government.
Dr. Borzu Sabahi, partner of the Washington office, shared insights on international arbitration, protection against investment claims, and jurisdictional challenges, citing recent arbitral cases.
During the meeting, risks associated with the multitude of bilateral investment treaties and the need to strengthen the legal framework for investment activities were discussed.
The seminar, which was also attended by representatives of ministries, agencies, and scientific and educational organizations, was constructive and held in a friendly atmosphere.
