On July 14, 2026, the ILLP hosted a discussion on the draft Forest Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with the participation of experts from the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change.
During the discussion, participants examined the legal clarity of the draft provisions, their consistency with the existing land, natural resources, and other relevant legislation, as well as the potential impact of the proposed norms on law enforcement practice.
Particular attention was given to distinguishing the legal regimes governing forest use and the lease of forest fund lands, the legal status of private forestry enterprises, the distribution of powers among state authorities, the use of digital and remote monitoring technologies, and the improvement of mechanisms for forest protection, restoration, and sustainable use.
The proposals put forward during the discussion will be taken into account in further refining the ILLP’s expert position on the draft Forest Code.
