On 21 May this year, the ILLP organised a scientific and practical round table dedicated to discussing current issues in the international legal regulation of transboundary water resources management and ensuring water sustainability in the Central Asian region.

The event was attended by representatives of ministries and departments, as well as research and expert-analytical institutions.

During the discussions, contemporary challenges related to water diplomacy, regional cooperation, environmental monitoring, and the improvement of national and international legal regulation in this field were examined.

Particular attention was paid to the development of mechanisms for inter-state dialogue, as well as the importance of coordinated approaches by the region’s states in resolving transboundary water issues.

Participants in the event emphasised the importance of further developing regional projects and international cooperation mechanisms, including the shared use of water resources, the implementation of infrastructure and energy initiatives, and the improvement of water legislation. The importance of a comprehensive approach to water, environmental and energy issues was noted, taking into account international standards, national interests and the principles of sustainable development.

Special emphasis was placed on strengthening the analytical and expert components, and on expanding interdisciplinary cooperation in the development of modern and effective institutional and legal measures for water resources management in the region.
